JOYOUS NEWS FOR SANCTUARY GUEST

Sanctuary Committee brings the attention of Friends to some rare positive news. It is with great joy and relief we bring news that our Sanctuary guest, Mohamed Soumah, was granted an “Order of Supervision” on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. The issuance of an “Order of Supervision” for Mohamed provides for “conditional release” by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and lifts the threat of arrest, detention, and deportation that he has been under ever since he was forced to seek sanctuary in Quaker House in October, 2018.
Mohamed was issued the order at the ICE office in Detroit in the presence of his attorney while approximately 35 people, including Friends from our Meeting, members of several congregations of Washtenaw Congregational Sanctuary (WCS), and Quaker House housemates stood outside in solidarity and support.
A press conference is planned by WCS on Tuesday, June 1, 11:00 a.m. outside the Meetinghouse (1420 Hill St., Ann Arbor) to announce this step forward, and we hope you can also come celebrate with us.
