Forum: Worship Sharing on JAG Queries
Continuing on the ‘A Quaker Call to Action!‘, on Sunday, July 26, on Zoom, after rise of 11:00 a.m. meeting for worship, the Meeting’s Justice Action Group (JAG) is hosting a forum. The discussion will be in the form of worship sharing centered on queries presented in the July 2020 business meeting.
On June 21, 2020, JAG shared our ‘A Quaker Call to Action!’ at Meeting for Worship with a Concern for Business, and hosted a forum to engage the Meeting in a discussion about the four actions we asked each F/friend to consider. Our ‘Call to Action’ was meant to reflect the thinking of JAG and to begin a discussion about policing and the prison system. We thank everyone who engaged with our ‘Call to Action’ and attended the forum.
This month we have developed queries that we hope will help us and other F/friends explore our personal attitudes about and relationships to police and incarceration. These queries are based on a historic query from John Woolman and the Ann Arbor Friends Meeting (AAFM) Peace Queries. We offer these queries for everyone to reflect on, and we invite you to join us for a Worship Sharing centered on these queries.
- Do we take part in the ministry of building and healing relationships between individuals and communities? Within our families and our faith community, how do we seek accountability when harm occurs?
- How can we open our eyes, hearts, and minds to recognize the structural violence embedded in our economic and social systems that comes to fruition in our system of policing and incarceration?
- Do we live out our testimony against interpersonal and state violence as being inconsistent with the creative work of the living God?
- May we look upon our treasures, the furniture of our houses, and our garments, our financial security and our childrens’ futures, and discover whether the seeds of inequity and police violence have nourishment in these our possessions.
