Readings for Reflection: August 2012
from the Committee on Ministry and Counsel

Be Still and Cool in thy Own Mind and Spirit

This month’s Reading is an excerpt from Howard Thurman’s Meditations of the Heart, (Boston: Beacon Press, 1999 – originally New York: Harper, 1953), beginning:

In the diary of George Fox there appears this very significant sentence: “Be still and cool in thy own mind and spirit, from thy own thoughts, and then thou wilt feel the principle of God to turn thy mind to the Lord from whence cometh life; whereby thou mayest receive the strength and power to allay all storms and tempests.”

At the time of this posting, we have not yet received permission to post the entire passage.
